Reversed Gijinka: Guardian of the sky by darkheroic Reversed Gijinka: Guardian of the sky by darkheroic
Ho-Oh, like its lesser counterpart Moltres, is based on the legendary Phoenix, a creature of Greek Mythology also known as the Firebird. Many cultures worldwide hold the Phoenix as a symbol of Longevity, Resurrection, and Reincarnation. Thus, Ho-Oh epitomizes this belief, as it was reborn rising from its own ashes. It also used its vast powers to give new life to the first Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, after they perished in Ecruteak City's Burned Tower. It is believed that through its unique abilities, this mighty Pokémon created the Legendary Beasts of the Johto Region out of a Jolteon, a Flareon, and Vaporeon respectively. However, it is unknown whether this is actually true.

Impractical

The wings would prevent you from using it properly, since they extend halfway up the blade

If they were smaller and closer to the hilt, then it would be perfect

I personally believe the beast trio were a growlithe(Raikou), a tauros(Entei), and a stantler(Suicune). Growlithe is striped, tauros is brown and hooved(look at entei's paws), and stantler has spots and horns shaped similar to Suicune's single headcress, only open at the top. Also, all three pokemon can be found in routes right outside of Ecruteak City. If Ho-oh was able to give them new life, is it hard to believe that they would gain a new type from rebirth? As far as I know, their types come not from their previous lives(though it is possible), but are attributed to the lightning that struck the tower, the fire that burned it, and the rain that finally put the fire out.

Of course, this is only my theory.

Its never 'officially' stated that their image or types have anything to do with the eeveelutions. Pure fan speculation. As is my own interpretation.;)

The part about the lightning, fire and rain was stated in the HGSS book however. But that's just canon legend. Game folklore, but more believeable then fan folklore since its from Nintendo.
